PAs for elite athletes

Being a Personal Angel for an elite athlete has its own rules, circumstances and, of course, situations… It is all about getting the following premise across to the client in question: «you play, we manage…». For it is necessary to be fully aware that the lifestyle of a top sports person involves many, many factors, independent of what his or her career requires. In other words, it is much more than training, being on the pitch and travelling from one place to another. So there is a clear objective: to design a life as a successful 360º athlete…

… And the PA’s mission is to get the key to what your lifestyle is: whether you have a family, how you like to spend your free time, what kind of residence you prefer and a whole host of other things to keep track of.

In order to carry out the Personal Angel evening for an elite athlete, the first thing that has to come first is absolute discretion, as they are often known, so it is very important to use a confidential base and/or network of ‘tested’ suppliers. And the PA knows how to supervise all this.

Therefore, a personal assistant for an elite athlete is as important as the manager, the lawyer and the athlete’s family… As we have already pointed out, the sports professional is usually in the media, and therefore, is exposed, and in addition, usually moves from one place to another; in the majority of occasions, with children. In short: they always tend to have an itinerant life… and the PA has to be the common thread in all of this so that your client has that feeling of home wherever they go.

Another aspect to bear in mind is that the Personal Angel intervenes to help the manager, and does not usually establish direct contact with the athlete. We could explain it like this: the manager is the one who controls everything that involves the athlete and the PA executes the Lifestyle. The PA would be behind as a subordinate of the manager.

Why can we say that the Personal Angel is fundamental in the life of an elite athlete?

Because they are usually people with very complex lives, who one day are in one country and, soon after, on the other side of the planet. Because they are usually quite young and have a family, which means that they not only have to take care of themselves but also of their partner, children and the people who follow them in their ‘nomadic’ existence. Being in the elite of sport, they are like celebrities, and every move they make in all areas of their life has to be under the strictest discretion (a reservation at a restaurant, a holiday on an island, a stay in a hotel room or even a visit to a museum…).

The PA makes it possible for them to live the life they want in the best possible way, managing their time so that they can devote it to what really matters to them.

«The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital…» Anonymous phrase but used in sport to which we add that this preparation has to be in all aspects, because a successful career cannot be fulfilling if every sphere of life is not.

PAs para los deportistas de élite

Ser Personal Angel de un deportista de élite tiene sus propias reglas, circunstancias y, por supuesto, situaciones… Se trata de que al cliente en cuestión le llegue la siguiente premisa: “usted juega, nosotros gestionamos…” Pues es necesario ser plenamente conscientes de que el estilo de vida de una persona que se dedica al deporte en la cumbre implica muchísimos factores, independiente de lo que requiere su carrera. Es decir, es mucho más que el entrenamiento, estar en el terreno de juego y de viajar de un lugar a otro. Por ello, hay un claro objetivo: diseñar una vida como deportista de éxito 360º…

… Y la misión del PA es acertar en la clave de cuál es su estilo de vida: si tiene familia, cómo le gusta pasar su tiempo libre, qué tipo de residencia prefiere y un sinfín de etcéteras que hay que controlar.

Para llevar a cabo la tarde de Personal Angel de un deportista de élite lo primero que ha de primar es la discreción absoluta, pues muchas veces son conocidos, con lo cual, es importantísimo utilizar una base y/o red confidencial de proveedores ‘testeados’. Y el PA sabe supervisar todo eso.

Con lo cual, un asistente personal para un deportista de élite tiene tanta importancia como el manager, el abogado y la familia del deportista… Pues como hemos señalado anteriormente, el profesional del deporte normalmente es mediático, y por lo tanto, está expuesto, y además, suele moverse de un lugar a otro; en la mayoría de ocasiones, con niños. En definitiva: siempre suelen tener una vida itinerante… y el PA ha de ser el hilo conductor en todo ello para que su cliente tenga esa sensación de hogar allá donde vaya.

Otro aspecto a tener en cuenta es que el Personal Angel interviene para ayudar al manager, y no suele establecer contacto directamente con el deportista. Podríamos explicarlo así: el manager es el que controla todo lo que envuelve al deportista y el PA ejecuta en lo referente al Lifestyle. El PA estaría detrás como un subordinado del manager.

¿Por qué podemos afirmar que el Personal Angel es fundamental en la vida de un deportista de élite?

Porque suelen ser personas con vidas muy complejas, que un día están en un país y, al poco tiempo, en la otra punta del planeta. Porque suelen ser bastante jóvenes y con familia, con lo cual, no sólo hay que ocuparse de él sino de su pareja, hijos y personas que le siguen en su ‘nómada’ existencia. Al estar en la élite del deporte, son como celebrities, y cada movimiento que realicen en todos los ámbitos de su vida ha ser bajo la más estricta discreción (una reserva a un restaurante, unas vacaciones en una isla, una estancia en una habitación de un hotel o incluso una visita a un museo…)

El PA pone a su alcance el poder vivir la vida que desean de la mejor manera posible, gestionando su tiempo para poder dedicarlo a lo que realmente importa para ellos.

“Las ganas de ganar son importantes, pero las ganas de prepararse son vitales…” Frase anónima pero utilizada en el deporte a la que nosotros añadimos que dicha preparación ha de ser en todos los aspectos, pues una carrera triunfante no puede ser plena si no lo es cada esfera de la vida.
