#Empathy

… that ability of someone to put themselves in the place of another, to identify with their feelings and their way of acting. It is a nice, simple and very easy word to give meaning to. However, in reality, it is complex and at the same time fundamental for living in society, and in particular in the Lifestyle Management profession. Let’s look at why «put yourself in my shoes» is so important in PA culture.

If there is one thing we are very clear about, it is that empathy is one of the 137 skills and abilities that a Personal Angel must have. It is a profession based on providing a service to others. To this we must add the high level of complexity that this entails. These are clients with high purchasing power, with complex lives, who need to delegate tasks and actions that take time away from what is really important to their PA. In order for this puzzle to fit together, empathy must exist. In other words, the personal assistant, after first getting to know their client, their needs, hobbies and tastes, must be able to understand their emotions, thoughts and expectations. They therefore set out to satisfy their requirements and requests. With a little intuition, a lot of communication, a pinch of imagination, a lot of diplomacy, a lot of attitude and all the empathy in the world, everything will go smoothly.

As mentioned above, empathy is perhaps something that seems too simple and banal to dedicate a reflection to, but it goes beyond writing about it, commenting on it and squeezing out its true essence. It is something basic that defines the human being, but it is not always easy to acquire and, therefore, it becomes a value that can be worked on, explored and even improved.

In Lifestyle Management, empathy becomes a value because we always listen to the person we are working for without prejudice. That is to say, without judging, trying to understand the other person and freeing ourselves from misgivings or conventionalisms, being tolerant and accepting that there may be differences in thinking between one and the other. Keeping an open mind, but also projecting how we would be, act or feel if we were in their place?

Isn’t empathy not so easy now? Therein lies its magic, and therefore, it becomes a wonderful quality: that of being empathetic… Personal Angels with inherent empathy.

La empatía

 

… esa capacidad de alguien de ponerse en el lugar de otro, de identificarse con sus sentimientos y su manera de actuar. Es un vocablo bonito, sencillo y muy simple a la hora de darle significado. No obstante, resulta complejo en la realidad, a la par que fundamental para vivir en sociedad, y en particular, en las profesiones de Lifestyle Management. Analicemos, a continuación, porque es tan importante en la culture PA aquello de “ponte en mis zapatos.

 

Si algo tenemos muy claro es que la empatía está entre las 137 habilidades y capacidades que ha de tener la figura del Personal Angel. Se trata de una profesión de servicio a los demás. Y a ello se suma el alto nivel de exigencia que ello conlleva. Son clientes con elevado poder adquisitivo, con vidas complejas, que necesitan trasladar funciones y acciones que le restan tiempo para lo realmente importante hacia su PA. Con la confianza por bandera y con la consecuente delegación de tareas. Para conseguir que todo este puzzle encaje debe existir la empatía. Es decir, el asistente personal, tras un conocimiento previo de su cliente, de sus necesidades, aficiones y gustos, ha de ser capaz de comprender sus emociones, pensamientos y expectativas. Y ponerse en marcha para satisfacer sus requerimientos y solicitudes. Con algo de intuición, mucha comunicación, una pizca de imaginación, bastante diplomacia, mucha actitud y toda la empatía del mundo, todo irá viento en popa.

Como hemos mencionado anteriormente, quizás la empatía sea algo que parezca muy simple y banal para dedicarle una reflexión, pero va más allá de escribir sobre ello, comentarlo y exprimir su verdadera esencia. Es algo básico que define al ser humano, pero que no siempre es fácil de adquirir y, por ello, se convierte en un valor que se puede trabajar, explorar e incluso mejorar.

 

En el Lifestyle Management la empatía se transforma es un valor pues siempre se escucha a la persona para la que se trabaja sin prejuicios. Es decir, sin juzgar, intentando entender al otro y liberándonos de recelos o convencionalismos, siendo tolerantes y aceptando que pueden existir diferencias de pensamiento entre unos y otros. Manteniendo una mente abierta pero no sólo eso, sino también, proyectándonos en cómo seríamos, actuaríamos o sentiríamos si estuviéramos en su lugar…

 

¿A que ahora ya no resulta tan sencilla la empatía? Ahí reside su magia, y por ende, que se transforme en una maravillosa cualidad: la de ser empáticos… Ángeles Personales con una empatía inherente.
